Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs at IU School of Medicine
Alvaro Tori, MD, joined the IU School of Medicine (IUSM) faculty in 2007 after completing his Pediatric Internship, Residency and Chief Residency at IUSM. Dedicated to the academic mission, he focuses on teaching pediatric critical care in a family-centered care environment. He also serves as Medical Director, Respiratory Therapy at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.
Dr. Tori's second appointment is as Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is dedicated to improving recruitment, retention and promotion of minoritized learners and faculty while at the same time improving the working and learning environment where everyone, regardless of their background and identities that we bring, feel welcomed, respected, inspired and supported to fully participate at IUSM.
Dr. Tori also develops programs to ensure that each individual has the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that allow them to work effectively with patients and their families, as well as with other members of the medical community regardless of their backgrounds. His personal experience, as a Latino, an immigrant and a member of the LGBTQ community enables him to truly understand the importance of diversity and its acceptance.
