Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at IU School of Medicine
Dr. Shannon Thompson is a board-certified pediatrician and child abuse subspecialist, licensed in Indiana. She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine, Riley Hospital for Children Child Protection Programs.
Dr. Thompson received her Bachelor of Arts in pre-medicine from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY and her Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University School of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, Ohio. She completed her pediatric residency training at Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
Prior to her current position, she practiced general pediatrics in Kokomo, Indiana for 3 years. She later practiced as a pediatric hospitalist for 8 years and served as Medical Director of the Child Protection Team at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent for 5 years.
In her current position, she serves as Medical Director of the Child Protection physical abuse clinic and recently developed a new clinic for foster care children in Marion County recently entering the system, the Foster Care Bridge Clinic. Dr. Thompson is committed to providing trauma-informed care to children and their caregivers in effort to help build resilience.
