Fourth Year Medical Student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, SNMA Speaker of the House
Onome Oboh was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. She began pursuing medicine by attending Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA), a Historically Black University that is “#1 for sending African Americans to medical school”. She graduated from XULA with a degree in Biology having minored in Chemistry with a concentration in Spanish. After her undergraduate studies, Onome went on to attend the University of California at Los Angeles Reapplication program (UCLA RAP) to become a more competitive medical school applicant. After her successful completion of that program, she pursued a Master of Science in Global Medicine (MSGM) at the University of Southern California (USC), because she had a deep, personal interest in death by preventable illnesses in third world countries. Onome is now a rising fourth year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU CHM). Her passions for advocacy, mentorship, and pipeline programming are evident in the effective, sustainable programming that lie in her wake at CHM. Her current projects include founding a health fair committee in Flint, MI, the creation of pipeline programs for both premedical students and medical students in the class of 2021, and the creation of the “Do No Harm” 5k in Flint, MI, an annual event to bring awareness to issues that affect the Flint community and urban communities at large. When she is not delving into her passions within medicine, Onome is also a singer, actor, and writer, all three of which she will continue to pursue along her path in medicine.
