Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs at IU School of Medicine
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Arrizabalaga obtained his Bachelor in Science in Chemistry from Haverford College. He received a Ph.D. in Biology from M.I.T where he worked on the molecular biology of embryonic pattern formation under the mentorship of Dr. Ruth Lehmann. He performed his post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine working under the mentorship of Dr. John Boothroyd. His post-doctoral work focused on the cell and molecular biology of the human parasite Toxoplasma gondii. From 2004 to 2012 he held a faculty position at the University of Idaho. He is currently a Professor in the Department Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Indiana University School of Medicine and an Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs. Dr. Arrizabalaga leads and participates in various efforts to empower faculty and trainees to become more effective mentors and mentees.
