Hello everyone! My name is Laura Allen and I’m a third year medical student at Northeast Ohio Medical University. I was born and raised in Akron Ohio and my current position within SNMA is Human Political Advocacy Liaison for Region V. I became involved in SNMA first as a MAPS member at the University of Kansas during my undergraduate years. I am also a past SNMA present at NEOMED. My current job as a PAL includes:
- Shall stay apprised of and educate chapters and members on current public policy and political issues (national and local) that affect our region and are pertinent to medical education, health care, physicians, health care workers, and patients.
- Shall field questions and concerns regarding political advocacy from chapters, and relay such issues to the Health Policy and Legislative Affairs Committee Co-Coordinators.
- Shall assist in the organization of a political advocacy component of the Regional Conference and subsequent related programming, such as voter registration drives, that chapters and members may undertake.
- Shall work to build coalitions with existing organizations for the purpose of advocating for key issues of regional- and state-based legislative agendas.
