Dr. Abam was born in Cameroon, West Africa and immigrated to Anchorage, Alaska at age 15. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She then worked as a laboratory supervisor in clinical chemistry, microbiology, and transfusion services at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota. She earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, received the 2020 William M Plater Civic Medallion and completed a concurrent 2 year fellowship as a 2020 Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholar. As a medical student, Dr. Abam was actively involved in the IUSM student-run free clinic, the Student National Medical Association, and Indiana State Medical Association and served leadership roles at her local chapters. Her interests include global health, social determinants of health, advocacy and healthcare disparities. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, dancing, traveling, cooking, rock climbing, working out and doing yoga.
